양유완은 1,250℃의 뜨거운 유리에 숨을 불어넣어 자유로운 형태를 만들어내는 유리공예가다. 호주 모나쉬대학교에서 유리조형을 전공하고 경희대학교 대학원에서 유리 전공으로 석사학위를 받았으며, 현재 유리공예 브랜드이자 작업 아카이브인 ‘모와니 글라스(Mowani Glass)’를 운영하고 있다. 산업디자인을 공부하던 중 우연히 접한 유리공예 수업을 계기로 유리의 매력에 빠진 그는, 정해진 규격과 완벽함보다 제작 과정에서 발생하는 오차와 우연성을 자신만의 조형 언어로 발전시켜 왔다.

작가는 액체 상태의 유리를 파이프 끝에 말아 입으로 불어 형태를 만드는 전통적인 블로잉 기법을 기반으로 작업한다. 빠르게 굳어가는 유리의 흐름에서 비롯된 비정형의 곡선과 미세한 기포, 수작업의 흔적은 작품마다 고유한 표정과 생명력을 부여한다. 투명과 불투명, 모던과 클래식, 동양과 서양처럼 서로 다른 요소를 조화롭게 결합하고, 한지와 소뿔, 도자 등 다양한 재료를 유리와 접목해 전통적인 아름다움을 동시대적으로 재해석한다. 빛과 주변 환경, 바라보는 각도에 따라 변화하는 작품은 매일 새로운 풍경을 선사한다.

양유완은 2018년 ‘예올이 뽑은 젊은 공예인’으로 선정되었으며, 호주 라나목 글라스, 밀라노 국제가구박람회, 런던 디자인 페스티벌, 사치 갤러리 등 국내외 무대에서 작품을 선보여 왔다. 컵과 잔, 화병 같은 일상의 기물부터 공간을 구성하는 대형 설치 작품까지 유리공예의 영역을 확장하고 있으며, 까르띠에, 몽블랑, 반클리프 아펠, LG SIGNATURE 등 다양한 브랜드와의 협업을 통해 공예와 패션, 공간, 라이프스타일이 만나는 새로운 가능성을 제시하고 있다.

Yang Yoowan is a glass artist who creates free-flowing forms by blowing into molten glass heated to 1,250°C. She studied Glass Art at Monash University in Australia and earned her master's degree in Glass Art from Kyung Hee University. She currently operates Mowani Glass, a glass art brand and creative archive. Originally trained in industrial design, Yang discovered the world of glassmaking through an elective class and became captivated by the material. Rather than pursuing rigid precision, she has developed a distinctive artistic language that embraces the unpredictability and subtle imperfections created during the making process.

Her practice is rooted in the traditional glassblowing technique, in which molten glass is gathered onto the end of a blowpipe and shaped through breath. The organic curves, delicate air bubbles, and traces of handcraft formed as the glass cools give each work its own unique character and vitality. By harmoniously combining contrasting elements—such as transparency and opacity, modernity and classicism, and Eastern and Western aesthetics—and incorporating materials including traditional Korean paper (hanji), ox horn, and ceramics, Yang reinterprets traditional beauty through a contemporary perspective. As the works respond to light, their surroundings, and the viewer's perspective, they reveal a new visual experience each day.

Yang Yoowan was selected as one of the "Young Craftsmen of the Year" by YÉOL in 2018 and has presented her work at renowned venues and events, including Ranamok Glass in Australia, the Salone del Mobile.Milano, the London Design Festival, and the Saatchi Gallery. Expanding the boundaries of glass art from everyday vessels such as cups, glasses, and vases to large-scale spatial installations, she has also collaborated with global brands including Cartier, Montblanc, Van Cleef & Arpels, and LG SIGNATURE, demonstrating the intersection of craft, fashion, space, and contemporary lifestyle.
