“Think Big!,” a solo exhibition by Kim Jae Yong, is presented at Art Space Hohwa in Seoul from Jul 28 – Aug 26, 2023. Using the familiar form of a doughnut as a canvas for artistic experimentation, Kim explores themes of identity, cultural hybridity, and the complexities of human experience through vibrant colors, playful patterns, and unexpected materials. Rooted in traditional ceramics and sculpture, his works incorporate stainless steel, Swarovski crystals, mirrors, and elaborate surface decorations to challenge conventional boundaries between art and everyday objects. Monumental doughnut sculptures and dynamic installations transform the exhibition space into a surreal environment, inviting viewers to engage with shifting perspectives and imaginative possibilities. Drawing inspiration from Korean folk painting, traditional blue-and-white ceramics, and diverse cultural influences, Kim creates a distinctive visual language that bridges Eastern and Western traditions. Through humor, visual delight, and bold experimentation, the exhibition encourages viewers to embrace a broader perspective on life and discover beauty, confidence, and possibility beyond familiar limitations.
