Georgia O’Keeffe was a pioneering American modernist painter and one of the most influential figures in 20th-century American art. Born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin in 1887, she studied at institutions including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia University, later teaching in various regions while establishing herself as an artist. In 1916, photographer Alfred Stieglitz introduced her work at his New York gallery, 291, bringing O’Keeffe to the forefront of the contemporary art world.
