반미령은 아치형 창과 문, 낡은 벽, 푸른 하늘과 바다, 화병 속 꽃과 새를 반복적으로 그려온 작가다. 이 익숙한 소재들을 통해 현실과 초현실 사이 어디쯤에서, 시간과 공간이 겹쳐지는 장면을 만들어왔다. 1965년생으로 홍익대학교 미술대학 회화과를 졸업하고 일본 동경예술대학 대학원에서 회화를 전공했다. 이후 KIAF, 화랑미술제, 아트부산, 대구아트페어, Affordable Art Fair, AHAF, BAMA 등 국내외 아트페어에도 꾸준히 이름을 올려왔다.

그의 화면에서 창과 문은 현실 너머로 향하는 통로처럼 보이고, 벽은 그 자체로 시간이 쌓인 흔적이다. 굳이 상징을 읽어내지 않아도, 그림을 보고 있으면 자연스럽게 과거와 현재, 의식과 무의식이 뒤섞이는 느낌을 받게 된다. 화면은 온통 빛으로 가득하지만, 그 빛은 단번에 드러나지 않는다. 수십 번씩 겹쳐 올린 붓질과 롤러 작업 끝에 서서히 배어 나온다. 그렇게 쌓인 색면은 매끈하면서도 깊이가 있고, 거친 회벽을 연상시키는 마티에르는 화면에 고요한 시간의 결을 남긴다. 매끄러운 색과 거친 질감, 내밀한 실내와 광활한 자연이 한 화면 안에서 부딪히며 반미령만의 초현실적 풍경이 완성된다.

2021년 갤러리가이아 개인전 《Encounter, 신세계를 꿈꾸며》에서는 안견의 〈몽유도원도〉와 정선의 〈금강내산〉을 오마주했다. 옛 화가와 지금의 화가가 만나는 지점, 그 시간의 영속성을 화면 위에 풀어낸 전시였다. 1998년 나가노 동계올림픽 기념 국제공모전에서 대상을, 2002년 송은미술대상전에서 장려상을 받았다. 작품은 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 외교통상부, 르네상스호텔, SK리더스뷰, 동부지방검찰청, 세브란스병원, 전국은행연합회, 일본 나가노시 등에 소장되어 있다.

Ban Mi-ryeong is an artist who has repeatedly depicted arched windows and doors, old walls, blue skies and seas, flowers in vases, and birds. Through these familiar motifs, she has created scenes in which time and space overlap somewhere between reality and surreality. Born in 1965, she graduated from the Department of Painting at Hongik University College of Fine Arts and studied painting at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan. Since then, she has consistently participated in major domestic and international art fairs, including KIAF, the Korea Galleries Art Fair, Art Busan, Daegu Art Fair, Affordable Art Fair, AHAF, and BAMA.

In her works, windows and doors appear as passages leading beyond reality, while walls themselves stand as traces of accumulated time. Even without searching for symbolic meanings, viewers naturally experience a sense in which the past and the present, consciousness and the unconscious, intertwine. Although her canvases are filled with light, that light does not reveal itself all at once. Instead, it gradually emerges through dozens of layers of brushstrokes and roller work. The accumulated layers of color are smooth yet profound, while the matiere, reminiscent of rough plaster walls, leaves the texture of quiet time upon the surface. Smooth colors and rough textures, intimate interiors and vast nature collide within a single canvas, completing Ban Mi-ryeong's own surreal landscapes.

In her 2021 solo exhibition Encounter, Dreaming of a New World at Gallery Gaia, she paid homage to An Gyeon's Mongyudowondo (Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land) and Jeong Seon's Geumgang Naesan. The exhibition expressed, on the canvas, the continuity of time where painters of the past and the present meet. She received the Grand Prize at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics Commemorative International Competition and the Encouragement Prize at the 2002 SongEun Art Award. Her works are included in the collections of the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Renaissance Hotel, SK Leaders View, the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, Severance Hospital, the Korea Federation of Banks, the City of Nagano in Japan, and other institutions.
