‘BEYOND CRAFT SEASON 2’

“BEYOND CRAFT SEASON 2 – The Aesthetics of Use,” a pop-up exhibition that brings craft back into everyday life, will take place from October 11 to 25, 2026, on the fifth floor of The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido. Organized as part of the “2026 Craft Connect Support Program,” the exhibition is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, and supported by the Arts Council Korea. A total of 17 craft artists will participate.

The exhibition focuses on “use,” the original purpose of craft. From bowls and drinking vessels to lighting and everyday objects, craft has long combined function and beauty through its place in daily life. “The Aesthetics of Use” invites visitors to move beyond viewing craft as something to be displayed and instead imagine how these works might become part of their own tables, desks, and living spaces.

Featuring works by 17 emerging and established artists, including GABBAO, the exhibition brings together diverse materials and techniques to highlight craft as an art form that develops a relationship with everyday life. It also draws attention to the traces of the human hand and the physical qualities of materials, values that are becoming increasingly meaningful in an era of rapidly generated digital images.

The exhibition further explores the cultural value of choosing objects that are made to be used and cherished over time. Unlike disposable consumer goods, handcrafted objects develop new traces and meaning through repeated use, connecting art, daily living, and thoughtful consumption.

As an extension of the “2026 Craft Connect Support Program,” which began in July, the pop-up provides participating artists with an opportunity to meet the public directly and share their work with a wider audience. Visitors will also receive a commemorative wooden stamp featuring artwork by artist GABBAO.

Park So-yeon, CEO of ARTN Life, emphasized that craft is an art form that finds its true meaning through everyday use rather than remaining behind display cases. She expressed hope that the exhibition would encourage people to bring craft into their daily lives while supporting artists in continuing their creative practices.

<BEYOND CRAFT SEASON 2 -
