The exhibition “Yusang Sammae (有相三昧)” presents a solo exhibition by Kim Joong Baek that centers on an act of immersion unfolding like a form of practice. Rather than revealing a fixed goal or idea, the artist repeats a process of making and unmaking forms—applying gesso onto coffee-dyed canvas, layering paint, and then removing it again. Traces that rise through the gesso and the subsequent brushwork become a record of coexistence in which the painting and the artist respond to one another. Free from attachment to results, the time spent wholly in immersion allows what resonates from within to appear as form—an approach aligned with “Yusang Sammae,” a focused absorption through forms that ultimately moves toward the truth of the formless.

김중백 작가 개인전 《유상삼매 有相三昧》는 수행과도 같은 몰입의 행위를 중심으로 전개된다. 작가는 어떤 목표나 아이디어를 드러내기보다, 커피로 염색된 캔버스 위에 젯소를 입히고 다시 그 위에 물감을 쌓고 지우며 형상을 만들어내고 없애기를 반복한다. 커피가 젯소를 뚫고 올라와 만들어내는 흔적과 그 위에 더해지는 붓질은, 그림과 작가가 서로를 주고받으며 완성되는 공존의 기록이다. 결과에 집착하지 않고 오롯이 몰입 속에 머무는 시간 속에서 드러나는 형상들은 내면에서 밖으로 나온 울림이며, ‘유상삼매’는 모든 형상 속에서 본질이 드러나고 결국 무상(無相)의 진리를 향해 몰입해 가는 뜻을 담는다.
