전남대학교에서 건축을 전공한 작가는 그림을 지우는 행위 자체를 작품의 과정으로 끌어들여 이를 표현의 수단으로 활용한다. 각기 다른 옅은 색들을 여러 겹 얹는 과정에서 부분을 지움으로써 비워진 부분에 이전의 색이 드러난다. 그림을 그려나가는 과정이 오히려 0으로 수렴해 가는 과정이며 그렇게 비워냄으로써 다른 색을 받아들이게 된다.
음악에서의 화성을 쌓는 것처럼, 쌓인 색들은 하나로 규정지을 수 없는 저마다의 색채를 갖는다. 채워지고 지워지는 행위를 반복해 여러 색감이 하나의 화면에 쌓여 저마다의 고유한 색감으로 드러나며 지워진 부분에는 이전의 색감이 드러나고 지우는 행위가 표현의 수단으로 자리 잡는다. 이처럼 작가는 바람처럼 살랑이기도 하고 따스한 햇볕처럼 토닥이기도 함으로써 어떤 감정의 제스처를 느낄 수 있도록 표현한다.
The artist, who majored in architecture at Chonnam National University, brings the very act of erasing into the creative process, using it as a means of expression. As multiple layers of subtly different, pale colors are applied, certain areas are erased, allowing the previous layers of color to emerge within the emptied spaces. The act of painting thus becomes a process that paradoxically converges toward zero; through emptying, the surface opens itself to receiving new colors.
Much like building harmonies in music, the accumulated colors form hues that cannot be defined as a single, fixed tone, each carrying its own distinct presence. Through the repeated actions of filling and erasing, numerous colors are layered onto a single canvas, revealing their individual characteristics. In the erased areas, earlier colors resurface, and the act of erasure itself establishes its place as a central expressive gesture.
In this way, the artist’s work gently sways like a breeze or softly consoles like warm sunlight, allowing viewers to sense subtle emotional gestures through the surface of the painting.
