박용인은 홍익대학교 서양화과를 졸업하고 일본에서 수학했으며, 니끼까이 전에서 고오베 신문사 대상을 받았다. 국립현대미술관 초대작가로, 대한민국 미술대전 운영위원 및 심사위원을 역임했으며, 다수의 개인전 및 초대전을 가졌다.

그의 작업은 서구의 도시 풍경, 산, 바다 등을 주요 소재로 삼지만, 그 이미지들은 사실적으로 재현되는 것이 아니라 추상적이고 기하학적인 형태로 재구성된다. 뛰어난 색채 감각과 절제된 미학을 바탕으로 구상적 작품 세계를 구축해 온 박용인은 예술성과 상업성 두 마리 토끼를 모두 잡으며 40대 초반에 이미 인기 작가의 대열에 합류했다.

박용인의 작품은 사물의 이미지를 끊임없이 해부하고 재구성하여, 회화적인 조형미를 통해 카타르시스를 자극하는 힘을 발산한다. 눈에 보이는 것뿐만 아니라 비가시적인 것까지 그림의 주제로 삼아 낯설게 만들며, 관객에게 생각의 공간을 제공한다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 박수근미술관, 광주시립미술관, 제주도립미술관 등 여러 미술관에 소장되어 있으며, 2014년 예술의전당 한가람미술관 특별전 ‘박용인 회화 50년전’과 2022년 갤러리청애 개인전을 비롯한 지속적인 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Park Yong In graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Hongik University and studied in Japan, where he won the prestigious Kobe Shinbun Award at the Nikikai Exhibition. He has served as an invited artist at the National Museum of Modern Art, a committee member and judge for the Korea Art Exhibition, and has held numerous solo and invitational exhibitions.

Park is renowned for his depictions of Western cityscapes, mountains, and seas, yet he does not merely reproduce these images realistically. Instead, he creates abstract, almost geometric representations. His exceptional color sense and restrained simplicity have built a figurative world in his paintings, which has earned him popularity both as an artist of artistic merit and commercial success by the time he was in his early 40s.

His works continuously dissect and reassemble the images of objects, stimulating catharsis through a painterly sense of form. Whether visible or not, even those things that cannot be perceived by the retina are transformed into subjects for his paintings, which alienate the familiar and provide a space for thought. His works are housed in major collections such as the National Museum of Modern Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Park Soo Keun Museum, Gwangju Museum of Art, and Jeju Museum of Art. His ongoing artistic journey includes the 2014 special exhibition '50 Years of Park Yong In’s Paintings' at the Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul and a solo exhibition at Gallery Cheongae in 2022.
