임영숙은 동덕여자대학교 회화과와 홍익대학교 대학원 동양화과를 졸업한 후, 1991년 MBC 미술대전에서 장려상을 수상하며 미술계에 발을 내딛었다. 이후 수십 차례의 개인전과 다수의 단체전에 참여하며 왕성한 창작 활동을 이어오고 있다.

그는 20여 년간 ‘밥’이라는 독특한 소재에 매료되어 작업해 왔으며, 달덩이처럼 하얀 그릇에 담긴 밥과 꽃을 통해 정갈하면서도 화려한 화면을 선보인다. 그의 작품 속 밥은 먹고 살아가는 인류의 깊은 역사를 담는 동시에, 힘든 기억과 아픔을 지닌 이들에게 전하는 따뜻한 위로의 상징이 된다.

가족과 나누는 밥에는 한없는 사랑과 염원이 담겨 있으며, 옹기종기 모여 있는 밥알들이 받치는 그릇은 우리 사회와 공동체를 상징한다. 밥과 꽃이 조화를 이루는 이 정겨운 공간은 건강과 다복의 의미를 함께 품고 있다. 임영숙은 친숙한 일상 소재를 통해 삶의 다양한 이야기를 함축적으로 풀어내며, 아름다움과 희망의 메시지를 전한다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 상명대학교 박물관, 세종호텔, 북부지방법원 등 여러 기관에 소장되어 있다.

Lim Young Suk graduated from the Department of Painting at Dongduk Women’s University and completed graduate studies in Oriental Painting at Hongik University. She entered the art scene after receiving an Encouragement Award at the 1991 MBC Art Exhibition, and has since continued an active practice through numerous solo and group exhibitions.

For more than two decades, she has been devoted to the distinctive motif of “rice.” Depicting bowls of rice as white as the moon alongside flowers, she presents compositions that are both orderly and radiant. In her work, rice embodies the long history of human sustenance and serves as a symbol of warm consolation offered to those who carry difficult memories and pain.

Rice shared among family members holds boundless love and hope, while the vessel supporting the clustered grains symbolizes society and the value of community. The intimate space where rice and flowers coexist conveys wishes for health and abundance. Through familiar everyday subjects, Lim Young Suk encapsulates diverse stories of life, delivering messages of beauty and hope. Her works are held in the collections of the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Sangmyung University Museum, Sejong Hotel, and the Northern District Court, among others.
