리진은 중국을 대표하는 현대미술 작가로, 천진사범대학교 미술학과 교수를 역임했으며 현재는 베이징에 거주하며 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다. 그는 현대인의 욕망과 일상에 대한 관심을 중국 전통 회화의 방식으로 풀어내는 독특한 시선을 지닌 작가이다.

리진의 작업은 주로 자신의 일상을 바탕으로 인간의 본능적인 욕구를 음식과 남녀의 이미지로 표현한다. 이전의 의례적이고 전형적인 주제들과 달리, 유명한 문구나 형상, 와인, 그리고 평범한 삶의 장면들을 회화의 주제로 삼는다. 작품에 반복적으로 등장하는 뚱뚱하고 털털한 남성은 작가 자신을 모델로 한 것이며, 그림 속에서 추파를 던지는 젊은 여성들은 모두 그의 이상형을 반영한다.

익살스럽고 자유분방한 묘사는 때로는 에로틱하면서도 유쾌한 분위기를 자아낸다. 그는 중국을 비롯해 오스트리아, 호주, 스웨덴, 미국 등지에서 수많은 개인전과 단체전을 열었으며, 그의 작품은 홍콩, 시애틀, 버클리, 보스턴 뮤지엄 등 여러 기관에 소장되어 있다.

Li Jin is one of China’s leading contemporary artists. He previously served as a professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Tianjin Normal University and currently lives and works in Beijing. His work offers a distinctive perspective, expressing modern desires and everyday life through the language of traditional Chinese painting.

Drawing largely from his own daily experiences, Li Jin depicts instinctive human desires through images of food and relationships between men and women. In contrast to earlier ceremonial and conventional subjects, he adopts well-known phrases, familiar forms, wine, and scenes from ordinary life as his pictorial themes. The plump, carefree man who appears repeatedly in his paintings is modeled after the artist himself, while the young women casting flirtatious glances represent his ideal type.

His humorous and uninhibited style is at times erotic yet unmistakably playful. Li Jin has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in China as well as in Austria, Australia, Sweden, and the United States. His works are included in the collections of institutions such as museums and galleries in Hong Kong, Seattle, Berkeley, and Boston.
