백자 달항아리는 순수함과 넉넉함, 고고함을 모두 갖춘 도자기로 우리 민족의 품성을 가장 잘 드러내는 상징적 존재이다. 더 나아가 달항아리는 세상의 모든 운을 담은 그릇으로도 해석되며, 용이 여의주를 물고 있는 형상에 비유되어 가족의 화목과 사업의 번창, 재물과 복을 담아 주는 만물의 분화구로 전해져 내려온다.

Lee Eun Sang is a ceramic artist continuing the legacy of traditional Korean pottery as the son of the late master potter Lee Subaek, renowned for his moon jars. Building upon techniques passed down from his father, Lee infuses a contemporary sensibility into his work, creating white porcelain moon jars that embody both tradition and modern refinement.

According to the artist, “A moon jar can only be completed when it is permitted by the intense fire of the kiln.” Through the process of making moon jars, Lee reflects on the fundamental truths of life, capturing the moment where natural forces and human perseverance converge into a single, complete form.

The white porcelain moon jar symbolizes purity, generosity, and dignified elegance, representing the essence of Korean cultural character. It is also regarded as a vessel that holds all the fortunes of the world. Often likened to a dragon holding a magical orb, the form of the moon jar is believed to bring harmony to families and prosperity in business, embodying blessings and abundance passed down through generations.
