김시문은 뉴욕 SVA(School of Visual Arts)에서 일러스트레이션을 전공하고 졸업 후 프리랜서 일러스트레이터로 활동해 온 작가이다. 그는 관계가 형성되는 순간들을 기록하기 위해 정물과 정물의 중첩에 주목하며 작업을 이어간다.

그의 작품은 색연필을 종이에 힘껏 눌러 그은 선들로 화면을 채우는 것이 특징이다. 머릿속에 떠오른 사물, 벽에 걸릴 법한 익숙하고 평범한 물건들을 그리며, 일상의 오브제들을 통해 개인적인 감각과 기억을 드러낸다.

김시문은 누구도 시도하지 않았던 대규모 작업에 도전하고 싶다고 말하며, 보는 이의 마음을 움직이는 그림을 그리고자 한다. 그는 일본일러스트레이션협회(JIA) 어워드, 미술·디자인 계간지 <크리에이티브 쿼털리> 어워드, 소사이어티 오브 일러스트레이션 어워드 등 다수의 상을 수상했다.

Kim Sea Moon studied Illustration at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York and has worked as a freelance illustrator since graduating. His practice focuses on layering still lifes as a way of recording moments formed through relationships.

His works are characterized by densely filled surfaces created with forcefully pressed colored-pencil lines. Drawing objects from his imagination—often ordinary items that might naturally belong on a wall—he reveals personal sensations and memories through familiar everyday forms.

Kim expresses a desire to undertake large-scale projects that no one has attempted before, aiming to create images that genuinely move the viewer. His work has been recognized with awards from the Japan Illustrators’ Association (JIA), the art and design quarterly <Creative Quarterly>, and the Society of Illustrators.
