김성수는 부산대학교 미술대학 회화과를 졸업한 후, 2002년 프랑스 디종 국립고등미술학교에서 DNSEP 학위를 취득했다. 그는 도시 풍경을 주요 주제로 삼아 회화 작업을 이어가며, 국내외에서 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있다.

조현갤러리, Melancholy Galerie LMD, 갤러리스케이프, 카이스갤러리, 창동스튜디오 등에서 다채로운 개인전을 개최했으며, 다수의 단체전에 초대되어 꾸준히 작품을 선보이고 있다. 김성수는 “풍경에는 도시를 바라보는 두 개의 감정이 오버랩 된다”고 말하며, 도시가 품은 복합적인 감정 구조에 주목한다.

Kim Sung Soo graduated from the Department of Painting at Pusan National University and later earned his DNSEP degree in 2002 from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Dijon in France. His practice centers on urban landscapes, through which he continues to actively engage with audiences both in Korea and internationally.

He has held a wide range of solo exhibitions at venues including Johyun Gallery, Melancholy Galerie LMD, Gallery Skape, KAIS Gallery, and Changdong Studio, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. Kim describes his approach by stating that “two emotions overlap when viewing a cityscape,” emphasizing the layered emotional responses cities evoke.

Through the coexistence of abundance and deprivation, glamour and shabbiness, beauty and sorrow, his works interpret the complexities of human life embedded within urban environments. Moving beyond mere visual appeal, his paintings invite thoughtful reflection, blending contemporary sensibilities with traditional elements to create refined and modern imagery.
