김란희는 이화여자대학교 미술대학 동양화과를 졸업하고 미국 뉴욕대학교(New York University) 대학원에서 크리에이티브 아트(Creative Art) 석사학위를 받은 판화가이다. 약 10년에 걸친 뉴욕 생활을 통해 대도시의 인공적인 불빛이 만들어내는 아름다움에 깊이 매료되었으며, ‘밤낮을 가리지 않고 빛으로 작렬하는 뉴욕’의 풍경을 환상적으로 표현하고자 작업을 이어가고 있다.

그는 도시의 밤거리에서 마주하는 빌딩과 가옥의 작은 창문, 유리 너머로 새어 나오는 은은하거나 강렬한 불빛과 네온사인을 어떻게 시각화할 것인지에 집중해 왔다. 빛의 색감과 리듬, 밀도를 탐구하며 도시가 지닌 감각적 풍경을 판화라는 매체로 풀어낸다.

동판 위에 드러나는 그의 작품은 섬세하고 미묘한 얼룩과 번짐, 각인과 긁어냄, 그리고 강도와 압력에 따라 달라지는 다양한 표정이 특징이다. 이러한 요소들은 농밀한 회화적 깊이를 형성한다. 김란희는 서울을 비롯해 미국, 프랑스, 일본에서 17회의 개인전을 개최했으며, 국내외 130여 회의 단체전에 참여했다. 대한민국미술대전 운영위원 및 심사위원, 미술협회 이사를 역임했으며, 여러 대학에서 강의했고 현재는 충남대학교 예술대학에서 판화를 가르치고 있다.

Kim Ran Hee is a printmaking artist who graduated from the Department of Oriental Painting at Ewha Womans University and earned her MFA in Creative Art from New York University. Influenced by nearly a decade of living in New York, she became deeply fascinated by the beauty created by artificial light in a metropolitan environment, seeking to depict the city that blazes with light both day and night in a poetic and fantastical manner.

Her work focuses on visualizing the small windows of buildings and houses encountered on nighttime streets, as well as the subtle or intense glow of lights and neon signs seen through glass. She explores how light can be translated into color and form, capturing the sensory rhythm and atmosphere of the urban night through printmaking.

The distinctive qualities of her works on copper plates include delicate stains and blurring, engraving and scraping, and a wide range of expressions shaped by varying degrees of pressure and intensity.
