강지만은 중앙대학교와 대구예술대학교에서 회화를 전공했으며, 얼 갤러리, 갤러리 정, 고양 아람누리 미술관 등에서 다수의 개인전과 단체전을 열어왔다. 그는 현대 청춘의 자화상을 자신만의 긍정 에너지로 전환해 극단적 낙천주의의 표상으로 그려낸다.

스트레스로 인해 머리만 커져버린 ‘얼큰이’ 캐릭터를 통해 사회로부터 격리되고 소통이 단절된 현대인의 모습을 성숙하게 묘사한다. 어른스러운 얼굴에 어린아이의 몸을 가진 얼큰이는 스트레스로 얼굴만 커진 현대인의 표상이지만, 마주하는 순간 웃음을 자아내는 긍정적인 에너지를 통해 이른바 ‘3포 세대’로 불리는 오늘날의 청춘들에게 위로와 공감을 전한다.

얼큰이는 남녀노소 다양한 모습으로 등장하며 늘 크고 작은 동물들과 함께한다. ‘나답게 살자’는 메시지가 ‘나만 살자’가 아님을 그림 속 행동으로 보여주며, 스트레스로 무거워진 몸과 마음을 안고 빠르게 달려야 하는 지금의 청춘들, 그리고 지속되는 위험 속에서 위축된 마음으로 힘들어하는 이들에게 극강의 낙천적인 에너지로 정신적 희망을 건넨다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관(과천), 블랙스톤 골프리조트(제주), 제주현대미술관, 재스민 라로끄 본사 등에 소장되어 있다.

Kang Ji Man studied painting at Chung-Ang University and Daegu Arts University, and has held numerous solo and group exhibitions at venues including Eul Gallery, Gallery Jung, and Goyang Aram Nuri Art Museum. He transforms self-portraits of contemporary youth into symbols of extreme optimism through his own distinctive positive energy.

Through the character “Eolkeun-i,” whose head has grown disproportionately large due to stress, he thoughtfully portrays modern individuals isolated from society and cut off from communication. With an adult-like facial expression and a child’s body, Eolkeun-i embodies the modern figure weighed down by stress, yet simultaneously delivers comfort and empathy to today’s so-called “three-give-up generation” through an energy that naturally evokes laughter.

Eolkeun-i appears in various forms—male, female, child, and adult—and is always accompanied by animals both large and small. By demonstrating through action that “living as oneself” does not mean “living only for oneself,” Kang Ji Man offers hope to young people burdened by stress and forced to keep running, as well as to those whose hearts have grown timid amid ongoing risks. His works are included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Gwacheon), Blackstone Golf Resort (Jeju), Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, and the headquarters of Jasmine LaRocque.
