정일은 홍익대학교 서양화과를 졸업한 후, 경인교육대학교 미술교육학과 교수로 재직했다. 그는 예화랑, 선화랑, 인사아트센터 등 국내외에서 여러 차례 개인전을 개최하였고, 독일, 파리, 스톡홀름 등 유럽에서도 활발히 작품을 선보였다. 또한 일본을 포함한 다양한 국내외 단체전에도 참여해 왔다.

그는 생텍쥐페리의 <어린 왕자>에서 영감을 받아 어른들이 잊고 살아온 동심의 세계를 작품의 모티브로 삼고 있다. 환상적이고 아름다운 로맨틱 감성을 화폭에 담아내며, 순수한 동심의 회복을 염원한다. 또한 어른들의 현실적인 논리로는 찾을 수 없는 아이들의 시각으로 세상을 관찰한다.

정일의 이야기를 따라가다 보면, 나도 모르는 사이에 그림의 주인공이 된 듯한 유희를 경험하게 된다. 정일은 1980년 프랑스 르 살롱전에서 동상을, 1984년 공간국제소형판화 비엔날레에서 우수상을 수상하는 등 뛰어난 성과를 이루었다.

Chung Il graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Hongik University and later served as a professor in the Department of Art Education at Gyeongin National University of Education. He has held numerous solo exhibitions both in Korea and abroad at venues such as Yeh Gallery, Sun Gallery, and Insa Art Center, and has actively presented his work in European cities including Germany, Paris, and Stockholm. He has also participated in a wide range of domestic and international group exhibitions, including those in Japan.

Drawing inspiration from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s <The Little Prince>, he takes the world of childhood innocence—long forgotten by adults—as the central motif of his work. He captures a fantastical and beautiful romantic sensibility on canvas, expressing a longing for the recovery of pure childlike spirit. His work observes the world through the eyes of children, offering perspectives that cannot be found through the practical logic of adults.

Following the narrative of Chung Il’s work, viewers experience a playful sensation, as if they themselves have unknowingly become the protagonist within the painting. He has also achieved notable recognition, receiving a Bronze Medal at the Salon Exhibition in France in 1980 and an Excellence Award at the Space International Mini Print Biennale in 1984.
